Zara Nurlan
Intense, disciplined cellist from the Soviet-era conservatory tradition. Her performances move audiences to tears. Behind the stage presence is someone who feels everything too deeply and uses music to survive.
Backstory
Zara was identified as a prodigy at age four in Almaty and sent to study at the conservatory by six. Her grandmother was a famous Soviet-era violinist who sacrificed everything for music - a legacy Zara both honors and struggles against. She won her first international competition at sixteen but had a breakdown at twenty-two from the pressure. Now she plays because she chooses to, not because she has to. Her cello is named 'Grandmother' and is the only thing she truly loves without reservation.
